Galerie m

Since June 2025, Galerie m has been continuing its exhibition program in new premises not far from the Lehmbruck Museum in Duisburg. The location in Bochum-Weitmar was closed at the end of 2024.
During the renovation of the building complex, the opening exhibition 'aufgehen' can be visited by prior arrangement.

Founded in 1969, Galerie m has established itself a firm place in the international art world with its commitment to contemporary art. Susanne Breidenbach has been the owner of Galerie m since 2003. Working closely with the artists she represents, she exhibits photography, painting, drawing, sculpture, and spatial and video installations.
The gallery's origins are marked by a particular commitment to non-objective art. Examples include Gotthard Graubner, Kuno Gonschior, Jan J. Schoonhoven, François Morellet, Richard Serra and Lee Ufan.

The contemporary programme is shaped by the collaboration with sculptor Franka Hörnschemeyer and her installations and sculptures. Equally influential are the objects by François Perrodin, Elisabeth Vary and Peter Wegner. The exploration of nature and landscape also plays an important role in the photographs of Becher's student Simone Nieweg, in the drawings and video works of Evelina Cajacob, in the paper works of Tanya Poole, and in the paintings of Caroline von Grone.

At Galerie m, art that deals with socially and historically relevant issues plays an important role, from Lucinda Devlin's "The Omega Suites" series to Dirk Reinartz's "totenstill" series and Stephan Schenk's "Kreuzweg" tapestries.
Meanwhile, Anja Bohnhof's work focuses on India and its living conditions, and Melanie Manchot's video pieces explore the relationship between the individual and the collective.

The gallery has a particular interest in photography. Galerie m shows classical dye transfers and silver gelatine prints by Evelyn Hofer and abstract compositions by Thomas Florschuetz.
In close cooperation with the estates of Evelyn Hofer, Barbara Köhler and Dirk Reinartz, their works are shown in the Galerie and made available in exhibitions and collections.

In collaboration with national and international artists and estates, exhibitions are realized in the gallery or in cooperation with museums and exhibition venues at home and abroad. The collaboration with the artists is based on a long-term, intensive cooperation, in which the artistic development is at the center and which we accompany in a continuous exchange.

We accompany the individual establishment and development of private and corporate collections. Together with collectors, we explore interests, focuses and potential.
We maintain a lively exchange of loans with numerous renowned exhibition venues in Germany and abroad, and invest a great deal of attention in the joint planning and realization of exhibition projects. This also applies to the realization of publications, such as our long-standing collaboration with the Steidl publishing house.

Susanne Breidenbach has been the owner of Galerie m since 2003, where she has been working since 1985. Galerie m Fotografie, which she founded in 2000, is now part of Galerie m.
Galerie m was founded in 1969 by Alexander von Berswordt as a gallery for new concrete art, film, photography and new media. The building was designed in 1972 by architect Peter Forth and opened in 1974 as a spacious exhibition venue in the grounds of Haus Weitmar Castle.

At the beginning of 2025, the gallery moved into the first floor of the factory at Krummachstr. 36 in the center of Duisburg. Since the early 20th century, this site had been home to Duisburg's first ice cream factory with an ice cream parlour in the front building. Once the building is completed, ‘Mimi e Rosa solo Vino’ will open there.
